چکیده

Colonization of soft lining materials with microorganisms, espe cially Candida albicans, is a common clinical problem. Siliconebased soft li ning materials have been found to be particularly susceptible to Candi dal adhesion. This study investigated the Candida albicans adhesion to 6 siliconebased soft lining materials (MolloplastB, Mollosil, Ufigel P, Ufigel C, Soft Liner and Lucisof). For each soft lining material, 7 specimens (10mm×10mm×3mm) were prepared. Sterile specimens were contaminated with Candida albicans. Adherent cells were fixed in methanol and stained with crystal violet and calculated by light microscopy. Scheffe Ftest and ANOVA were used to analyze the data (p=0.001). The results of this study showed that adherence of C. albicans occurred for all siliconebased soft lining materials. Significant differences were found in the Candidal adhesion among soft liners. Siliconebased soft lining mate rials tested have been found to exhibit particular Candidal adhesion.

Interactions between thermal cycled resilient denture lining materials, salivary and serum pellicles and Candida albicans in vitro. Part I. Effects on fungal growth.

In the present study, the growth of a single isolate of Candida albicans on seven saliva-, serum-coated or protein free (uncoated), thermocycled (4-70 degrees C for 1 min, respectively; 0, 1000 and 10 000 times) commercial resilient lining materials was investigated by monitoring pH changes in growth media. The inhibitory effect of the tissue conditioners on fungal growth was observed using thr...

Comparative effects of two different artificial body fluids on Candida albicans adhesion to soft lining materials.

This study investigated the C. albicans adhesion to cold- and heat-polymerized soft lining materials that were initially incubated in two different artificial body fluids, namely saliva and nasal secretion, and examined the surface roughness the materials (cold and heat polymerized soft liner) tested in vitro. Cold (Visco Gel) and heat-polymerized (Molloplast B) soft liner specimens (N=32, n=8 ...

Antifungal Activity of Denture Soft Lining Material Modified by Silver Nanoparticles—A Pilot Study

Soft liner materials in oral cavity environments are easily colonized both by fungi and dental plaque. These factors are the cause of mucosal infections. The microorganism that most frequently colonizes soft liner materials is Candida albicans. Colonization occurs on the surface of materials and within materials. A solution to this problem might involve modification of soft liner materials with...

A comparative evaluation of soft denture liners

Statement of problems: Two potential problems commonly identified with a denture base incorporating a resilient liner are a failure of the bond between the acrylic resin and resilient liner material and colonization of Candida albicans over time. Aims: This in vitro experimental study evaluated the shear and compressive bond strength as well as colonization of Candida albicans of commonly avail...
